Why do we fear death?
In many of the debates over religion here we see the argument that religion addresses our common fear of death
Let's
explore that a little deeper. Why do we fear death? There are at least
two levels to consider; the reasons we fear our own death and the
reasons we fear death as a broader concept
Is
our consciousness to blame, our sense of individuality, our awareness
of self? Is our fear purely selfish? Is it simply because death is such
an unknown state? Why isn't the fact we weren't alive for billions of
years prior to this life a comfort in our looking forward to death?
